🌲 DuPont State Forest Waterfalls
DuPont is famously known as the "waterfall forest" — with several major falls accessible on easy to moderate trails, it's one of the most rewarding hiking destinations in the Southeast for all ages and ability levels.
🥾 3 Easy & Accessible Waterfall Trails
Hooker Falls — A beautiful 12-foot waterfall with a deep pool perfect for swimming, on a short flat trail just 0.25 miles from the trailhead. Ideal for families with young children and one of the most popular spots in the forest.
Bridal Veil Falls — A broad, dramatic waterfall made famous by The Hunger Games. Very easy access at just 0.2 miles round-trip — one of the most photographed waterfalls in North Carolina.
Wintergreen Falls — A peaceful 20-foot cascade through hardwood forest on a 0.5-mile round-trip trail. Quieter and more secluded than the more popular falls.
Fawn Lake Loop — An easy, flat 1.5-mile loop around a serene mountain lake. Perfect for families looking for a gentle nature walk with beautiful scenery.
Moderate Waterfall Trails
Triple Falls / High Falls Loop — The crown jewel of DuPont. A 3–4 mile loop taking in the dramatic three-tiered Triple Falls and the forest's tallest waterfall, High Falls — a powerful 120-foot granite slide just half a mile from the visitor center. Short staircases and well-maintained trails make this accessible for most hikers.
Bridal Veil + Triple Falls Connector — A scenic 3-mile route combining two of DuPont's most iconic waterfalls through beautiful forest and river views. A perfect half-day hike.
Big Rock Trail — A 4–5 mile moderate trail with gentle elevation gain, open meadows, and views across the forest canopy.
🔴 Challenging Trails
Three Lakes Trail Extended Loop — A 7+ mile loop through secluded forest passing three mountain lakes. Perfect for experienced hikers seeking solitude and scenery away from the crowds.
Grassy Creek / Stone Mountain Loops — Remote 6–8+ mile loops with significant elevation changes through some of DuPont's most wild and beautiful backcountry terrain.
🚴 Mountain Biking in Dupont State Forest
DuPont is one of the best family mountain biking destinations in the Southeast. With around 80 miles of trails, DuPont is the most family-friendly mountain biking destination in the Brevard area — more approachable than neighboring Pisgah, with wide gravel roads, gentle terrain, and beautiful waterfall stops along the way.
Most Popular Trails for Families & Kids
Lake Imaging Road — A wide, easy gravel road through the heart of the forest. Perfect for young riders and a great first introduction to DuPont.
Jim Branch Trail — A fun, accessible singletrack connecting to several of DuPont's best trails. A great first taste of forest riding for kids stepping up from gravel roads.
Tarkiln Trail & Buck Forest Road — Gentle, well-maintained trails near the Guion Farm Access Area. Flat enough for younger kids and a relaxed family ride.
Most Popular Trails for Adults
Ridgeline Trail — DuPont's crown jewel. A fast, flowy 6-mile loop with an exhilarating descent that keeps riders coming back. The must-ride trail in the forest.
Cedar Rock Trail — Unique rock features and varied terrain make this one of the most memorable trails in DuPont. A favorite among locals and repeat visitors.
Big Rock Trail — A demanding black diamond descent down a granite face. One of DuPont's most talked-about trails for experienced riders looking for a serious challenge.
